ART TOUR JUNE 4 to 22, 2017
Edirne [3 nights] Sunday June 4th- Tue 6th
Please arrive into Istanbul [IST] airport before 1.00pm on Sunday, we recommend Etihad or Qatar from Australia. If you are NOT choosing to fly with these airlines then we will arrange pick up from the HOLIDAY INN ISTANBUL AIRPORT hotel. This is most likely to be around 2-2.30pm. We recommend that if you are flying with other airlines from Australia you will need to arrive a day earlier and stay at this hotel. Any one flying into Istanbul earlier on the 4 th from other cities might like to arrange to meet at this hotel also instead of waiting at the airport.
This hotel is close to a large shopping centre so if you have spare time you can venture over the road to see how big the shopping centre are in Turkey!
After collecting everyone we will drive directly to Edirne a town very close to the Bulgarian and Greek border. The trip should take about 2.5 hours. Edirne was the 2nd capital of the Ottoman Empire after Bursa. The Ottoman Empire invested a lot in the city as it was a very important passage to Europe.
The architecture in Edirne is magnificent and we will see and paint some fine examples of this. The most important building in Edirne is the Selimiye mosque. The mosque was designed and built by Sinan, between 1556 and 1574, for Sultan Selim II. It is considered to be the finest example of Ottoman religious architecture and was the last major work of architect Sinan's brilliant career.
Also, whilst in Edirne we will spend some time visiting the main hub of old Edirne, which consists of caravanserais, markets and stone bridges which are all from the Ottoman times.
ҪANAKKALE [1 night] Wednesday June 7th
We start with a 3 1/2 hour drive to the Gallipoli peninsula. We will
